After each monthly branch meeting, we add a summary of recent news affecting local pubs and breweries:

  • Pub & Brewery News Wednesday 21 August 2024
    • The Bryntirion Inn, Llandderfel, has been put up for sale and reportedly bought by the owners of nearby Pale Hall. It is expected to reopen at the end of August.
    • Black Cloak Brewery - formerly based in Colwyn Bay - has completed its relocation to Denbigh. It has a tap room which it is understood to be open Fridays and Saturdays from 2pm. The Black Cloak tap room in Colwyn Bay remains open but without the adjacent brewery.
    • Brookhouse Mill, Denbigh, has been bought by Strange & Co (owners of the Cottage Loaf, Llandudno). It is expected to remain closed for some time while refurbishment takes place.
    • Hafod Brewery, Mold, won a star at the recent Great taste Awards for their Moel Famau Porter.

    Cookhouse pub/restaurant in Rhyl may be closing
    White Lion, Buckley, looking for a new manager
    Burntwood pub in Buckley thinking of serving real ale
    Ruthin Castle, Mold, has two real ales on the bar
    Horse and Jockey, Buckley, no longer serving real ale
    Three Pigeons, Graig-fechan, just serving one real ale
    The Swan at St Asaph is still up for sale
    Blue Anchor, Buckley, no longer sells real ale
    Piccadilly at Caerwys is selling Butcombe beer at present
    Newly refurbished Cob and Pen in Rhyl rumored to be up for sale
    Proposed new brewery in Cilcain

    Celtic Arms, Northop now selling two Hafod beers.
    Miners Arms, Maeshafn will have pop up food stalls.
    The Bridge, Pontblyddyn, has new owners, - Larry has retired after 20 years.
    Treboom Brewery, Bagillt are yet to begin brewing.
    It was reported that Black Cloak brewery, Colwyn Bay are looking to relocate the brewery to Denbigh and could include a tap room.
    Reports that the Swan, St Asaph has restricted its opening hours recently.
    No real ale reported at the recently refurbished Ruthin Castle, Mold.

    The Colomendy Arms, Cadole closed on the 1st of April due to retirement.
    The Drovers Arms, Mold is under new ownership/management.
    The Bridge Inn, Pontblyddyn is under new ownership/management.
    The Miners Arms, Maeshafn reopened on the 29th of March.
    The Hand, Gwernaffield is subject to a change of use request to operate solely as a retail premises.
    Treboom brewery, Bagillt has been approved retrospective planning permission.
    The Market Cross, Holywell closing on the 12th of May with a sale expected on the following day.
    Planning permission has been granted for the old Boots store in Mold to operate as a bar with occasional live music.
    The Gwysaney Arms, Rhydymwyn is likely to be sold for development as it has been reported that restoration to a licensed premises is not economically viable.
    Mold Alehouse, Mold and the Bull Hotel, Beaumaris have been declared County winners by the Trade Title pub and bar magazine.
    The transfer of the Bala area, including its pubs and members to the Gwynedd a Mon branch is in progress.
